Introducing
the Danu Bend
What’s Danu at all?
Danu is a mood, a feeling, a state of mind. The experience you have when taking a journey with us on this land. Colors, scents, sounds and the buzz that calls you for adventure.
Danu brings the opposite shore closer so you just need to step over. It gives the magic back to the journey. We believe that destinations are only means to turn us in the right direction. What really counts is always in front:
We arrived in the festival for a Friday that turned into a weekend… Tent with a king size bed? Come on now! You think I won’t give it a try?

We just finished our spritzers when we realized that there was no need to look for a bike rental. John got himself some big MTB. Flat land and bike lane until Nagymaros, but it’s okay. Suspensions are cool, I know. I stayed with a light road bike myself to be sure. He tried racing me the whole way but poor John didn’t have a chance. When he arrived – panting hard – at the bar he was already sullen: “I won’t be riding back to Zebegény!” Well, we didn’t need to either. Get this: they received the bikes we rented at the Spritz Terrace at the bar and let us in just the way we were. Laci was still grumpy of course. Even after he learned what great chevapi they serve. Just when I started to accept another moody Saturday night, when the musicians appeared on stage and started playing this jazz classic. Laci’s eyes lit up and I knew it will all be right from then on out.
My favourite thing is waking up with the sun and watching from the apartment’s terrace as the red stream slowly washes away the grey cover of the Dömös Camping then the whole Danube bank.

The boat was swaying slowly through the Danube. Wind combed through my hair and mom came to take me back into the cabin. I didn’t let her of course so she tied her scarf around my neck. I didn’t like it, it was pink. But at least I could stay up there. I still had no idea where we were going. That’s when the bend appeared. Like we were crossing a giant drain that leads to infinity. I could stare at it for hours but we soon reached the other side. That’s when mom pulled the scarf in my eyes and started leading me through some field. Laughing children, freshly smoked bacon. The scarf was off and I found myself in the middle of a giant, amazing camping. So we didn’t come to the dentist after all!
We picked up the kayaks at Zebegény, hopped in and the caravan began down the calm stream of the Danube. Me with Erika, Pete behind me, followed by Glen and Janette, then the other half of the IT department. The guys don’t even know what awaits them at Nagymaros. I can see those shocked faces.

You can only truly know the Danu Bend if you wind through it. Like, let’s say in a canoe with a friend who has never held a paddle before and lacks a sense of rhythm.
The perfect summer adventure? A freshly tapped beer, shashlik with a dip, the Danube wind and the fellas. That’s all, thanks!

I didn’t know there were such high hills in Hungary. Our boat arrived at the bottom of the Szent-Mihály hill and we were off. Climbing up into infinity. My half-gallon bottle managed to save me from a heat stroke but it couldn’t help my muscle cramps. Only one thing could: Juliánus. I’ll never forget this name. The lookout named after him had a view I never anticipated. The Danube Bend is hands down the climax of my holiday.
After finishing the Hegyes tető hike we only wanted something to warm our frozen hands. Just then, as a hot oasis on the tundra, a lit-up terrace appeared on the shore. We shuffled over and got the scent of fresh mulled wine. In one minute steaming cups of liquid thawed our fingers. After the first delicious sip we managed to look around and take in the beauty of the slumbering Danukanyar, tucked in snow.

Never would’ve thought I’ll make the year’s best Instastory on a family vacation of all things…
After a delicious lunch we had a fairy tale boat ride then started for the mountain. Instead of the well-traversed road, Armin decided to go for one of the most difficult-looking one. I didn’t know you could get lost in Visegrad but after half hour of empty trekking I started to have my doubts. Bottles running out, so are my reserves, but I kept on. “Almost there now!” I heard it a few times. After the umpteen turn, just when I was going to give up, the most gorgeous scenery revealed itself behind the rock. Armin fell to his knees. I jumped to help him, but saw that he started dig around in his pocket and lifts up a little red box. Suddenly, I even forgot about needing to catch my breath.
We created Danu to help you discover the most beautiful part of Hungary from a fresh perspective and to introduce a great range of ways to relax and have fun in this land.
You can roam, bike and row around this stunning region, embark on gastronomical journeys in our restaurants, relax with the family or with friends on a camping weekend or enjoy live concerts outdoors in the whirlwind of a festival. We call all this simply:
